Now that the bites have healed I decided to post the image from the scene of the crime. While I was on vacation making this image I was attacked by a multi-species strategic insect task force. I am glad that I was able to get a couple of shutter clicks in before I had to flee (pun intended) the scene.
Nikon D300
Tokina 11-16 ATX Pro
Gitzo Traveler
Singh-Ray 3stop RGND
Tip: I was using a 3 stop Reverse Graduated Neutral Density (RGND) to hold back the sun. Later I found that I probably needed to stack another 2 stop filter on top of it. Thankfully I was shooting in RAW so I could recover the blown out sun in post production. Make sure you meter the background and foreground independently so you can better determine your filter needs.

G-r-e-a-t post-processing on this one Justin! Would you consider making it available as a screen saver? As a newbie to ND filters, do you use a filter holder on the lens? A mini-lesson for us new to those filters other than screw-on types would be helpful.
Thanks Penelope!
It will be my next desktop. I will post it when I have it finished.
Great idea about the ND filters. I will work something up and add it to the site. Here is the quick answer. I do use a filter holder when working with the sea. I don’t hand-hold them because the scene is so dynamic that my full attention is required for the waves and clouds. I use a LEE 4×6 holder and Singh-Ray 4×6 filters. I use the 4×6 size because it offers extra room to slide the filter around for placement. I hope that helps until I add a full post dedicated to my filter system.
Thanks again!
