DesertTrain

We are back from a week of touring the desert. We had a fairly loose plan, so discovery and adventure was big component of the trip. This was probably the second image I made on the trip. We saw this lone engine, out to pasture, near Moab UT. How often do you get a chance to stare down the barrel of a locomotive? Not often, so we decided to go a bit out of our way and chase the image. A lesson I learned on this trip was that your biggest enemies are hesitation and schedules. If you feel there is an image out there, make it. You can never lose by trying. Also, keep your schedule loose so that you can act on your instincts. On these trips, it’s the journey and not the destination. You just have to be lucky enough to be traveling with someone who shares the same idea.

  6. Exceptional photo!

  7. Great use of the fisheye!

  8. Love it. Dig the composition and the distortion on the sides of the frame.

  9. Wow, nice fisheye shot!

  10. What you said on how it’s the journey not the destination is so true. Over the weekend, we took a trip and got some spectacular photos just by stopping along the side of the road when we saw something interesting. I’d say they are probably better than the ones we took when we arrived at our destination!

  11. Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the kind words. I love my fisheye, even if it is an off-brand.

@Kristi – Sounds like we have similar travel companions!
