Operation Hansrico

You might be wondering about the title of this post. There is a long story behind it, but the long and short of it follows. Last year I ran a 6 month fitness challenge. One of the participants was Rick Louie of Hansrico.com photography. Not only did he participate in the entire 6 months, he lost almost 75 pounds, started running 5ks, and got out and started living! What started as a simple comment on a blog, has turned into solid friendship. This weekend we actually climbed to the top of a 12000 ft. mountain together to shoot the sunset. I’m pretty sure that wasn’t happening 75lbs ago! This is one of the images that awaited us. It was high fives all around! I guess the lesson of the story is simple, get out and get living. Fill your life with as much cool stuff as you possibly can. You never know what you will find.

News: Supporting The Davis Phinney Foundation At the beginning of the year, I set a goal to try to use my camera for good. To try and do so, I volunteered for the Davis Phinney Foundation to aid in their battle against Parkinson’s disease. There is a long story behind my decision to join forces with the foundation and I will share it later this week. As you might or might not know, there is one heck of a bike race coming to Colorado and our goal is to raise $40,000 during the race. I will be on location the entire week of racing promoting this goal. If you want to start helping now, you can donate here. It is safe, secure, and easy to do.

  1. Justin – beautiful image, but an even better story to accompany it. Life is what you make of it, to be sure. A simple message often overlooked in our busy lives these days. The best way to hammer these points home and make them “stick” with others, is by telling stories. This is most effective when the stories are personal and meaningful. My hope is that your post will inspire many more to make a positive life change, before they lose any more precious little time we have to do some good and leave a lasting impression… cheers ~ jeff

  2. I was expecting a picture like this this week, but not this post. I appreciate the mention. I appreciate your motivation. It was a great time this weekend! Lot’s of “chimping” up there at 12K Ft! Need to do it again!

  3. This is sick. The moon just sitting there dwarfed by those massive clouds is killer.

  4. Stunning image. The tones in the cloud coupled with the moon is amazing.

  5. Sorry we didn’t cross paths, but a cool story here too. Tks for the comment (back atcha!) I like how you composed the clouds/moon here, may have to try that with a few of my own shots! :)

  6. Will Shanken says:

    Hi Justin
I continue to be impressed with your not only doing well with your camera but with inspiring others to do well with their lives.

  7. Excellent! Love that trilogy of silhouetted ridge, clouds, and moon. It’s almost extraterrestrial. Nice… :)

  8. What an awesome shot Justin. Love the moon and the unbelievable light.

  9. Wow…just WOW! Now that is how you combine clouds and a moon into a great shot.

  10. Thanks everyone! The story is a lot cooler than the photo, but Mother Nature did us right…
