The Tree of Life as it is known, was a lucky find in Portland’s Japanese Gardens. It is featured on all the brochures. When you arrive you are fired up to see a massive and majestic tree. Does this tree look tiny and about 4 feet tall to you? It is. I had to lower my tripod down to the ground and almost lay on the ground to photograph it. The end result was an image of a magnificent tree, towering above me. I hope you have enjoyed this quick look at Portland’s Japanese Gardens. If you are ever in Portland, I suggest you visit them. If you plan on brining a tripod, make sure you bring an extra two bucks to cover the tripod fee.
Tomorrow will be another episode of ‘Adventures In iPhone Photography’ filmed at Mt. Hood. The following week will begin my daily coverage of the US Pro Cycling Challenge. Brace yourself, because I have something very cool to share with you this weekend. We are covering this race in a way that has never been done before. The ‘we’ in this statement will be revealed on Sunday. It is going to be something special!
You might be interested to know that I selectively desaturated all the colors that weren’t present in the tree leaves. I then adjusted the hues of the colors that were in the leaves. This allowed me to create an autumn tree growing out of an otherwise black & white landscape.

Stunning! Absolutely cannot tell this tree is only 4ft tall…unbelievable shot!
…and don’t even think of using a cellphone while inside the garden (or you’ll be asked to leave or, at least, hang up) and, while you’re at it, leave all food and drink in your car. That said, I also strongly recommend a visit to the garden because it is beautiful and peaceful (see previous note about cellphones) and offers a great opportunity to hunt for this tree which is nowhere near as obvious as I had expected given how many pictures of it I had seen!
Gorgeous! I just started seeing images of this tree popping up recently. I love it!
Awesome. Has to be one of the most photographed trees in the world, but I will be sharing one soon myself. Mine will be from the IR camera though. :-)
Looks 30 feet tall to me! Excellent image Justin!
