More From Temple Square

I’m fascinated with photographing around Temple Square in the heart of Salt Lake City. This is an image of the LDS Conference Center which is situated across the street from main temple. I photographed it from the other side so you can see the temple in the background. I’ll share that image down the road.

My question is this, have you ever photographed in our around Temple Square? IF so, please leave a comment with a link to you photos. I’d love to see them.

Photographer’s Note

This is a 7 photograph HDR image. I processed the RAW files in Light Room 4 then ran them through Photomatix. After that I did some styling in Lightroom 4 and Photoshop, added a little Nik Define Noise Reduction and CEP 4 Glamor Glow, sharpened it a bit, and added a final global contrast adjustment. I shot it with a Nikon D700 paired with the Nikon 24mm 1.4 (what a glorious lens!).

Another Question

Do you like seeing the processing/capture notes? They take a while to add, but if it helps you out I’ll continue to do it.

  1. That is a beauty Justin. Great composition, light and color. I have shot around there over 10 years ago but those images are before I was serious about photography (read: not worthy for prime time). As far as the processing notes, I do read them but don’t really use them for my processing. There are so many software programs and filters out there that it is impossible to be proficient with them especially for someone who is not a pro.

  2. Great shot. Love the composition. I’ve spent a fair amount of time in SLC on business but never had the time to explore and shoot Temple Square. Your shots certainly capture the beauty of the area. As for processing/capture notes, you bet I read them and find them interesting. For those of us looking to improve our skills, its helpful to understand the gear and the work required to produce the final shot. I appreciate that you take the time to help us understand what’s behind the shot.

  3. Back “in the day” I lived in Tucson and would drive through SLC when going home for the holidays. I would try to time my trip through the area to be able to get Temple Square at night, they sort of go all out with Christmas decorations, and makes for some amazing images. I probably have 200+ slides somewhere that were scattered or a 4 or 5 year period, some I am quite proud of, some not so much. I will have to see if I can find them.

If you ever get the chance to visit Temple Square over Christmas, make it a point to visit at night, well worth the trip.

    • Thanks for the info Scott! I might have to make a holiday run out there. Flights to SLC from DEN are really cheap….sometimes only $29 or so.
