Game Changer

There is some exciting news brewing in the photo editing world. I don’t think I can share it quite yet, but a new tool will be on the market very soon. Possibly today? I actually used it to make this image. I really think it is going to be a game changer…well, it kind of already is. I’m sure you will hear about it soon enough, but I’ll share it with everyone as soon as I get the go ahead. Until then, I figured I could at least share an image I had fun processing with it. The original image out of the camera is similar to the one below. I think I accidentally exported the wrong image from Lightroom…actually, now that I look at them I know I did.

Rodeo

The first night of rodeo coverage is under my belt. Two more to go. This is going to be a very interesting story. I’m learning a lot from the bull riders. They are are great guys and really generous with their knowledge. I will be doing some more behind the scenes work tomorrow on Facebook so make sure to like our FB page so you can follow along. This is shaping up to be a very interesting story.

Here is a quick iPhone shot from tonight.

Afternoon At The Museum

Anchorage Museum HDR

You are looking at the Anchorage Museum. It is where you wait for your bus that picks you up to take you to a cruise ship. That is the obvious difference between an Alaskan cruise and a Caribbean cruise. Although I haven’t been on a Caribbean cruise, I’m guessing you aren’t getting cultured waiting for you ship. You are more likely slamming margaritas getting primed to make some bad decisions.

Rodeo

This week I’ll be working on our next story. It will be focused on the world of Rodeo and the athletes who compete in it. I will be posting a lot of behind the scenes images like this iPhone image every night on Facebook/Twitter so give our FB page a like or so you can follow along.

Also, if you have any questions for either a bull rider or rodeo clown tweet them to me or post them here or on FB and I will do my best to get them answered.

Forging Our Way

I’m amazed by the Alaskan fishermen. The scale of the Alaskan landscape, as well as the seascape, is so vast that to be alone in it must be haunting. These little fishing boats seem to disappear into nowhere. There’s no sign of port, no city near by. Just lone captains forging their way through an existential mist. I guess we all are.

Glaciers And Mountains

Howdy! I hope everyone had a great weekend. I was hard at work putting together two new iPad Wallpaper collections. You can read more about them below. You can actually put today’s image on your iPad if you want. It’s in the Explorer Collection. The image is from Glacier Bay Alaska. I learned the deep blue water is a result of years (10,000s of years) of granite that is crushed by the moving glaciers. The locals call it glacial flour.

Chester The Sled Dog

Chester

Chester is a retired sled dog at the end of the Denali Hwy. I’m guessing he still gets to go run around Wonder Lake every now and again. He was surely more interested in slipping into a harness than posing for my camera. I had always pictured sled dogs as the classic blue eyed Siberia Husky. Not the case. They are all different, but most of them just seemed to be lanky mutts. Basically, everyone was a living underdog story. I think that’s kind of cool!

Tip: When photographing animals, shoot from a distance and make several images. They are usually so expressive and the emotion they convey changes from moment to moment. Oh yeah, if the owner will allow it, give them a treat!
