The Watchman

This image was a lesson in paying attention. I was up shooting close to the Twin Peaks overlook (you can find it in my travel guide) and I thought to myself…”self, next time you are up here you will have to coordinate with another person to stand on top of that hill down there.” Just as I said that, myself quickly said…”hey, quit talking to me and pay attention. Someone is standing on top of that hill!” The light wasn’t great, but I had enough shape and contrast in the scene to make it work.

Photographer’s Note: I shot this image using my trusty Nikon 28-300 VR. It really is the ideal travel lens. I actually ran it through a field test in San Francisco. If you are interested in the results you can read my review of it here.

Time Change

Sunset

Another celebration is order today. The time has changed here in Colorado! For someone who loves summer outdoor activities, this is a welcome event.

Today’s Image

This image was actually a frame from a time lapse sequence I shot for my movie Tiempo (watch it here). The sequence didn’t make it into the movie, but the .jpg sure came out nice, so I thought I would share it in celebration of longer days. As always you can click on the image to get a larger image to use as a daily desktop.

A Late Night At The Embarcadero

Embarcadero At Night

The Embarcadero, pictured here, is in the heart of the San Francisco financial district. It is bustling during the day, at night it falls silent. I spent an evening, all alone, exploring this area with my camera. I love nights like that. Just the sound of the city in the distance and creativity in your heart.

Voted On The Island

Niagara Falls Ferris Wheel

Because I shoot a lot of photos over the course of year (2011, it was around 30,000), I created a gallery on my various social outlets where I post photos that don’t make it to the blog. What else am I supposed to do with all those image? This photo was really well received by the kind folks that follow us over on Facebook, so I decided I better share it with everyone. The people spoke, and it was voted on the island (errrr…blog). If you’re curious, this is the ferris wheel overlooking Niagara Falls.

The Contrast In Flora

Alaskan Forest

Even a short stroll through the forests of Alaska will quickly reveal the lush flora that covers the state. It could have been the Bov Iver I was listening to when I processed this image, but it reminded me of the feeling I had as I made my way through this beautiful place. I was intimidated by its scale and at the same time I was curious to see what was over the next hill.
