On my flight to Austin last week I was captivated by the landscape and the blanket of low lying clouds. So much so, I shot about 700 miles worth of iPhone photos along the way. I would have shot more but my battery gave out on me. So here is the land between Denver CO and Austin TX as it’s seen from 36,000 ft. Side note: All images were processed using Nik Software’s Snapseed.

News
The normal schedule around here is Monday through Friday. However, I will be in Hermosa Beach this weekend working on a story I have been wanting to tell for a long time. The story is about life along a little strip of cement that connects Santa Monica to Palos Verdes, or as the locals call it…’The Strand’. So this weekend I will be posting some behind the scenes images from the story as I try my best to tell it. It’s going to be a bit of an experiment, so I’m not sure how it’s going to turn out but I’m sure it will be amusing.
You can also follow my iPhone photography live on The Frontier.
Reminder – Free Hermosa Beach Photo Walk Tomorrow Night!
The When: Dec 17th @ 4:00pm (you can rsvp on Facebook if that makes things easier).
The Where:Let’s meet at the best beach hotel on the strand…The Beach House.
Holiday Guide Gift Guide
Here are some cool things that I have used this year that have made my photographic life easier. Maybe they can help the photographer in your life, or your own photography too!
- Awesome batteries for your flash!
- The Skooba Cable Stable is the perfect organizer for your chargers and card readers.
- The Lens Pen is a handy lens cleaning tool.
- The hink Tank Retrospective 30 is a fantastic street bag. I’d go as far as saying it is the Street King.
Fitness Challenge Update
I hope everyone is getting their fitness challenge dialed in. As for me, outside of indulging in the fried chocolate chip cookie dough at Torches Tacos in Austin, I had a pretty good food week. I’m doing my best to make a conscious effort to only put good fuel in the machine. That being said, my first attempt at stand up paddle boarding didn’t go so well. It could have gone worse. I could have fallen into the water in the 38 degree temps down there in Austin. I actually never stood up and paddled. I stood up, my legs started to shake like sewing machine needles and I almost dumped it. I still got in a 4 mile kneeling paddle board. Sunday I will be giving it another run in Pacific Ocean. Let’s just say I have a long way to go if I’m going to be competitive against Laird Hamilton and Dave Kalama in May. Here is a pic of me playing ‘air paddle guitar’ in front of the SRV memorial on my failed first attempt.

Here is a pic of me right before I was nearly run over by the UT women’s crew team.
