I met this gentleman late one afternoon while walking along the pedestrian mall in the heart of Playa Del Carmen. There was no doubt about it, he played a mean Accordion. I would have enjoyed hearing him with his full band, but today he was rocking it solomente.
Question for Nikonians – I’m considering upgrading my 85mm 1.8D (the lens I used for this photo) to either a 1.4G or 1.8G. I’d love to hear your thoughts about either of them. Thanks!
Howdy! I hope everyone had a great weekend. I made some solid headway on my next book. I’ll have more information about it in the next week or so. This week we have a little something for everyone…landscapes, wildlife, people…. As you well know, I try my best to keep things fresh for you. I know your time is valuable so I do my best to make your daily stop here unique and beautiful. That being said, today’s photo is for my wife. She is a summer gal and the shortening days really take their toll on us. It’s nothing a little Caribbean Sunset can’t cure though. This one’s for you!

Today’s Photo
This is a sunset looking east from Playa Del Carmen. The skies were spectacular those few of days before Hurricane Emily arrived. Thankfully the hurricane passed without doing much damage.
Photographer’s Notes
This image was a single exposure processed solely in Lightroom 4. If you are wanting to get something more out of your sunsets, I’d suggest your try and experiment with the ‘Hue’ controls in the ‘HSL’ panel of Lightroom 4. You can have some serious fun there!
I have been hard at work on a new project the last three weeks, so I’ve been a bit of a shut in. Coupled with a cold Colorado winter, I’m in need of some sun to recharge the happy battery. Soon we will be working on our newest travel guide, ‘The Photographer’s Guide To La Jolla’. Until then, I will have to do with a photo from Mexico.
Photographer’s Note: Although I used a Singh-Ray 3 stop reverse neutral density filter in this image, I still had to use the GND filter in Lightroom.
Yep, you guessed it…well most people guessed sunset. These lovebirds were actually early birds. This was a sunrise in Playa Del Carmen. Not much else to say other than its always nice to see folks getting up early to witness what Mother Nature has in store for them. Although, because it was Playa, they might have just come back from a club? I go dancing in zip off khaki pant-shorts all the time.

I’m by no means a morning person. I am an ’8am-coffee-robe’ person. I have realized though that by not being a morning person, and still getting up before dawn to make images like this, I must either really love photography, sunrises, or both. Yep, sunrises are a test of what activities are inline with my inner spirit. If I can get up early to do something, I must really love it. How about you? Is it easy for you to get up for a sunrise?
