Escalator

The Broadmoor Escalator Print

This award winning image of the Escalator at the historic Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs has been featured in several of their publications. The photograph was made in the fall of 2009. It is printed on metallic paper to emphasize the brass elements within the composition. I love this one, and I know you will too!

The Book Cliffs

The Book Cliffs are a geological feature unique to the area. They are the boundary between the wine region of Palisade and small town of Grand Junction CO. If you ever get a chance, make sure to visit them in person.

Castle Moab

It was quite a hike to get to this vantage point along the western border of the White Rim Trail. In the distance, under sky and cloud, is Canyonlands National Park. In the foreground is one of many castles standing watch over this desert.

Union Station

This one is for my grandfather. He was a train conductor, and this was his office.

    Jason,

Would you be willing to talk/ blog about the escalator image? I would have never thought of taking that picture. The normal sunset, sunrise I can envision, but half of an escalator, I don’t think I would have seen the potential outcome, which is lovely.

I’m interested in your post processing too if you are willing to share it.

      Howdy,

It is actually Justin, and yes I would by happy to discuss the image. Let me what you would like to know. Looking forward to hearing from you.

      Talk to you soon!

      • Justin,

My apologies, everyone spells my name incorrectly, so you think I’d be more careful.

On the escalator (rather moving walkway) image, it’s so lovely. I can’t imagine looking at that scene and realizing how wonderful it would turn out. I’m afraid I would just see an every day escalator. But you obviously saw the potential. What do you look for in a scene like this? How do you find the lovely in the everyday, the mundane, the things we take for granted?

I assume you shot it in HDR, is that correct?

Then your postproduction, it looks like you may have used the Nik glamour glow filter, is that the case? Any other special treatment of the image in post?

I look at my surroundings and wonder if you would see something I don’t. Lots of beauty, but how to capture something unusual like you have eludes me.

        Thank you for your time.

        Tenna

Gottcha. Let me give this some thought. Looks like you and I are about to dive into a discussion on creative process, so I will try to get my ideas in order. Thanks for the thought provoking question.

I would love to hear from you
