In our continued effort to connect people, cultures and ideas through a shared understanding, we explored the idea of transportation on the Caribbean island of Cozumel. To local Cozumelanians, the scooter is the primary mode of transportation. It is both agile and cost effective. The scooter serves both as an individual commuter, as well as, a family vehicle. Based on our observations, the median number of riders is 3, a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 6, including a dog. The average number of riders is 2. During our study, which was conducted by scooter over the course of 7 days, we consumed 2.2 gallons of gas. The following is a typology of the scooters we observed.
